Birth: 1752
Death: Dec. 10, 1779
Charleston County
South Carolina, USA

Soldier. Bedaulx was a Swiss mercenary who served in the Dutch Army. In the summer of 1776 he attempted to come to the United States to fight for the Americans, but was captured and imprisoned in England until early 1777, when he escaped to France. In March, he sailed from Bordeaux with the Marquis de Lafayette, arriving in Philadelphia in July. Bedaulx was offered a commission of captain in September, but he refused this commission. In December 1778 he was appointed by the Continental Congress as a lieutenant colonel in General Casimir Pulaski's, Legion. After Pulaski's death at the Battle of Savannah in October 1779, Bedaulx was in command of the Legion. Requesting permission to quit the service because of his ill health, Bedaulx died in Charleston before he could return to Europe.
