Martin served as a Staff Sergeant & Tail Gunner on B-24H (#42-51160), 760th Bomber Squadron, 460th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He resided in Fairfield County, Connecticut prior to the war.
He enlisted in the Army on February 2, 1943 in Hartford, Connecticut. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Firemen and also as Married.
Martin was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-24 was shot down by German Messerschmitt 110s over western Hungary and crashed in the village of Nemesvita, Hungary during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
Martin's remains were recovered in August, 2007 and he was interred at the Arlington National Cemetery in November, 2008.
His status was changed to "Killed In Action"
