Killed in Action
Don Bodenhamer died in the line of duty on May 25, 1945. He is buried on Okinawa. Bodenhamer, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Bodenhamer of Lemoore, was with the Third Fleet in the Southwest Pacific as a seaman first class. He went into the service in July, 1944, took his boot training at Farragut, Idaho, and his advanced in radar at Treasure Island. Prior to going into the service he was engaged in ranching with his father.
He was among the 21 sailors killed during a Kamikaze attack on the USS Stormes (DD-780). The USS Stormes was part of the Okinawan invasion fleet antiaircraft screen.
