Mr. Joe Hanford Archer, 89, Republic, formerly of Thayer, Mo, passed away August 6, 2011, at his home. He was born October 14, 1921 in Alton, Mo to Parks Dale and Mary Esther (Hollis) Archer. He married Joyce Lawanda Nickless on March 7, 1947 in Alton. He graduated from Alton High School and served in the U.S. Army four years in the European Theater where he was the postmaster of his division.

He worked at the Bank of Thayer and later for the US Postal Service until retirement.

Joe was a member of the Freewill Baptist, Thayer, serving as treasurer for many years. He was a member of the American Legion of Thayer.

Mr and Mrs. Archer moved to Republic in 1995 where they attended the Brookline

Baptist Church until his health failed.

His parents; two stepbrothers, and three stepsisters preceded Joe in death. He is survived by: his wife, Lawanda; a daughter, Linda Griffin, Republic, formerly of Thayer; a grandson, Joey Honeycutt, his children, Brittany, Kayla, and Dylan; grandson Darren Honeycutt, his wife, Andrea, their children, Erika and Delaina; step granddaughters, Shelly Jewell and Susan Daly; step great grandchildren, Colby Burris, Nathan, Natilie, Austin, and Amanda Goodwin, Colton Jewell, Cesilie, and Cameron Centobie. Brothers-in-law, Roy Fuller, Thayer, Paul Nickless, Camdenton, Mo., and a very special friend, Karen Kay Paul, Newburg.

A visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, August 7, 2011 at Meadors Funeral Home, Republic. The funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, in the funeral home, with Rev. Mitchell Wright officiating. A graveside service and burial, with military honors, will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday, in the Thayer City Cemetery.
