Death: Dec., 1841

Samuel Belew moved to Gibson County, TN around 1827, and settled south of what is now Poplar Springs Cemetery. The original sandstone marker was broken, laying at his grave. A maintainance caretaker moved all the broken markers to the side of the cemetery so he wouldn't have to mow around the broken grave markers. Not knowing the exact location of these markers they were never replaced on the graves. With this said there is not a marked grave for Samuel Belew or his wife, Mary Polly (Bryant) Belew. I have added this memorial in their memory and for future researchers. Samuel and Mary Polly Belew had 15 children. There are 3 children, who graves have not been found, Joseph James Monroe Belew, Elizabeth (Belew) Littlefield, and Mary Amanda (Belew) Seymore.

The Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery's web site list the people buried there. The May 1999 posting shows 36 Belews, 33 Bryants, and they also show 71 sandstone markers that are illegible or unengraved.

~ Silent is the voice we loved to hear; too far away for sight or speech, But not too far for thought to reach.Sweet to remember him who once was here, And who, though absent, is just as dear. ~
