Rites Held For Frank Hoffarth
Former Blacksmith in Long Prairie
Five days after his 99th birthday, Frank Hoffarth, well known Long Prairie citizen and a former blacksmith here, died at St. Mary's Home where he resided the past year after his health began to fail. His death, attributed to bronchial pneumonia, occured Tuesday, Jan 10.
Funeral Services were held at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic church here Friday, Jan. 13. The Rev. Fr. Alfred Heltemes of Clarissa officiated at the solemn requiem mass at 10 o'clock in the morning. Interment was made in St. Mary's cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Ronald Arnold, Donald Moore, Richard Irsfeld, Ruben Thiegs, Ed Nokels and Arnold Griep.
Frank Xavier Hoffarth, was born in Canada Jan. 5, 1868, the son of Leo and Margaret (Fisher) Hoffarth. He came with his parents to Long Prairie township, Todd County in 1873, and grew to manhood there. On Oct. 6, 1896 he married Anna Claseman in Long Prairie. They made their home in the Long Prairie village where he practiced his blacksmith trade until retirement, and has resided here since. He was a member of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic church. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus and a life honorary member of the organization.
His wife preceded him in death December 19, 1956. Surviving is a daughter, Olivia, of Long Prairie and a son, Norman, of Concrete, Wash.; also a sister, Mrs. Josephine Mickels of Park Rapids, Minn, and two grandsons James and Frank Hoffarth of Minneapolis. He also leaves a host of friends.
