Private in Company E, 105th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (Civil War-Union Army). Date of Muster into Service: September 4, 1861. (Bates) Enlisted at age 19, Ht. 5"6 1/2" Brown Eyes, Dark Complexion (Muster in Roster). Died July 8 of wounds received at Gettysburg, Pa., July 2, 1863 (Reported- Shot in neck, engaged in combat actions along Emmitsburg Road, in and around the monument of the 105th PVI). (Originally buried on the farm/ clover field of Michael Fiscel Farm, moved to National Cemetery Plot) There was a field Hospital located at the M. Fiscel Farm, Pvt Campbell –wounded on the 2nd of July and died on the 8th of July, most probably died at this field hospital. Bodies were begun to be moved to the New National Cemetery in October 1863, he probably would have been moved during that time period.
