James served as a Flight Officer on B-24J "Hare Power" (#44-40117), 852nd Bomber Squadron, 491st Bomber Group, 8th Air Force, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He resided in Texas prior to the war.
James was "Killed In Action" with the rest of his crew during the war when his plane was shot down over Germany and he was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
He was originally interred overseas and was later repatriated here on July 1, 1950.
