*Special thanks to Susie❤Bazil for sponsoring Chili Bean's Memorial.*

Our darling little Chili Bean was such a tiny little girl when she first came into our lives. My son called her Bubby Boodle and soon the name Chili Bean was replaced. It didn't take Bubby Boodle very long to figure out how to wrap us around her little paws.

She always wanted to be sitting in our laps and demanded to be petted and would claw us if we didn't give her enough attention. Chili Bean was a play mate to Snookie, they were close together in age. We took Chili Bean along with our precious Snookie on our yearly vacations Our little Bubby Boodle could run and play for hours on end, she never seemed to get tired.

Our son called us one day to say Bubby Boodle couldn't breathe and he thought she was going to die. We rushed over to find her gasping for breath and took her to the vets. They did x rays, blood work and an ultra sound and the vet said that she had asthma and so a year long series of treatments began.

After that first year of treatments our son Jim wanted us to keep her here in our home so we could give her the medication. He said he loved her but was afraid he could not keep up with the meds. He was afraid he would let not give her the medicine every day and he might let her die so for 9 months prior to her death she lived with us.

Near the end Bubby Boodle got so much worse she would gasp, cough and gag with every step she took, the medicine had suddenly quit working on her. She could no longer play and she had no joy in life except for eating. I took her back to the vet in search of something different that would work on her.

He tried many different pills but none of them was able to stop the gasping for breath. The vet said there was one more medicine we would try. They were the only pills and liquids left that might help. He said if these last medications did not work it would be kindest to put her to sleep. Chili Bean also had a bad heart that she had medications for too. We gave her the last resort pills and liquid daily, it felt as though we were holding our breath waiting to see how she would respond to them.

She was getting so much better and we thought we had the illness whipped. When one day we woke up and her nose was all contorted. When I rushed her to the vet it was not good news. Cancer we did not know about had struck some nerves in her face and contorted her nose. The vet said she would suffocate unless she had an operation. He said it rarely goes well even on a reasonably healthy dog, he said he did not recommend it that he felt she would not make it. He thought with her age and health she would die on the table.

I told him I wanted to bring her home to Monroe for a vet so my family could be there too. But the Dr. Tim said she would suffocate and die on the way back home and it would be a painful death. The vet I took her to was 80 miles from home. So I had no other choice but to have her put her to sleep. Our vet's here in Monroe are not as good as the Jackson, MI. vets.

He waited while I called the family on my cell phone so they could say goodbye to Bubby Boodle. I had the speaker phone on and Dr. Tim explained how there was nothing that could be done. He said how sorry he was. There was a lot of crying and I hung up the phone after we all said goodbye.

Doctor Tim kissed her on the head and told her he had done all he could for her. He told her she was a good girl and he had fought so hard trying to save her. Then I held her in my arms as the vet gave the injections. Bubby Boodle took a deep breath and all the rasping and wheezing stopped, she went limp in my arms. She fell into a Heavenly sleep in my arms just 6 days after her 10th birthday.

I realized that I was crying all over the vets hands but Doctor Tim did not take his hands away. I begged him to make sure she was gone and was not alive and suffering. He listened more than once and said she was gone. He took my baby to the car and I cried the whole 80 miles back home.

Our darling Snookie followed her to Heaven just 6 weeks and 3 days later. Our losses were great and we miss our little girls so very much.

My furbabies are now with My Mother 1917-1997 and My Dad 1921-2006

If I don't get my healing my little Bubby will soon be with her mama Ann Howard

Here is a poem I wrote for little Chili Bean such a sweet girl.

A poem I wrote for Chili Bean
My Sweet Senorita Chili Bean Bubbles Howard

God knew you'd be mine at the time of your birth
for 10 years you dearly were loved while on this earth.
For now my little one from you I had to part
but forever and ever you will live in my heart.

I hold the memories close of kisses left behind
my sweet loving girl will remain forever in my mind.
You were always there to play or to sit in my lap
each day you were with me together we would nap.

You were my sons dog but still I think he knew
I considered myself Mama not just Grammy to you.
Chili Bean you were loving and faithful to the end
you were not just a dog you were my baby and my friend.

12 days with my son and 12 days with me you'd come at a run
I'd plant kisses on your face you made life so much fun.
Holding you as you took your last breath I found I was no coward
my darling you will never be forgotten by your Grammy Ann Howard.
