Today is February 1, 2006. Our quiet, gentle, funny, loving little Cosmo left us this morning. He was born almost exactly eight years ago, and came to us not long after via a phone call about a stray kitten who'd been hit by a car. A very hard start to a little life, and it took its toll- he healed and came to live with us, but there were things he didn't understand, like not walking off the edge of a counter, or getting out of the way before you stepped on him. Which unfortunately was hard to avoid since he insisted on parking himself right in the absolute busiest spot on your route while you were trying to clean. He'd sit there without a word (I never heard him say anything) and stare up at you with those luminous green eyes, waiting patiently for you to pay attention to him. And if you didn't, you would be rushing back and forth cleaning and suddenly feel a little pair of paws on your thigh, and look down and see him standing on his hind legs leaning against you, those green eyes still asking, well??? At which point you would realize that of course he was absolutely right, and there was nothing more important in the world that needed done than picking him up and sharing some special time.
