|Death: ||Apr. 2, 1883|
George W Black died at the age of 41 years 18 days. There is a GAR marker beside his headstone. A child's stone in the same lot, Willmie B Black, says daughter of George E Black. I assume she is the daughter of George W Black.
Many many sites state George was a member of Co L 4th Iowa Cavalry including a book written about the History of Silver City in 1954.
The George Washington Black who was a member of Co L 4th Iowa Cavalry was born in Ohio and was a resident of Pella, Iowa, when he enlisted in 1861. He was at the National Home for Disabled Soldiers in Hampton, Virginia, in 1899 and died in Florida in 1910. He is buried at Fort Meade and has a military headstone. His pension records and the veteran home records confirm he was a member of Co L 4th Iowa Cavalry.
I have searched extensively to try to find Civil War records for George W Black buried at Silver City who died in 1883 and can find none. Please contact me if you have any information.
