Resident of Des Moines County for 82 Years, Passes Away At Danville Home.

Mrs. Maria Josephine Coad, 90, the widow of Henry Coad and pioneer resident of Des Moines .county, was taken by death at her home in Danville, la., early yesterday morning after a five weeks' illness due to the infirmities of old age. She was well known in her community, a devoted wife and mother and her bouyait spirit won for her friends that will sincerely mourn her passing.

Mrs. Coad was born in Fairfleld county, Ohio, March 27, 1837, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Riffel. When eight years old she came to the west with her parents, making the journey by wagon train, and settled on a farm northeast of Burlington.

She was united in marriage with Henry Coad, January 22, 1855, and the couple moved to a farm near Danville where they lived until 1908 when they moved to Danville, Mrs. Coad making her home there since. She was a member of the Baptist church at Danville. She was preceded in death by her I husband in 1909, two sons and one daughter, and is survived by seven daughters, Mrs. Ellen Lotspeich, of Somers, la., Mrs. Lillie Marchant of, Lustin. Cal., Mrs. Flora Foster, of Skidmore, Mo., and Mrs. Anna Mix, Miss Grace Coad. Mrs. Jennie Seaton and Miss Maude Coad, all of Danville; two sons. Alfred Coad of Cawker City, Kans., and Louis Coad of Mediapolis, la.; 30 grandchildren and 34 greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services will he conducted, from her home at Danville Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. Rev. Paul E. Johnson, pastor of the Danville Baptist church, will officiate and burial will be in Jagger cemetery
