Member of Parliment for Denbighshire, 1536 to 1547. Also served as Governor of Denbigh Castle during the reigns of Edward VI, Mary and Elizabeth I. He and his wife, Jane Dryhurst, ultimately had 16 children; nine sons and seven daughters.
One of Richards sons, Sir Hugh Middleton, was responsible for building the system that still supplies London with its water today.
Another son was Thomas Middleton who was a charter member of the East India Company and owner of Chirk Castle (still inhabited by his direct descendants).
Richard is buried in the floor of the porch at St Marcellus Church, where a large brass plaque commemorating him is affixed to the wall.
