Jackie "Jack" Lee Adkins, 71, of Somonauk, Illinois, died Sunday, January 13, 2002 at his residence after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
    He was born October 22, 1930 in Clarksville, Arkansas, the son of John Abe and Deulah Mae (Edwards) Adkins, Sr. He married Doris McKinzie on May 17, 1952 in Piggott, AR. He was a member of the First Apostolic Church of Sandwich. He was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather and was very family oriented. He was a well-known musician in southeast Missouri and an avid musician in his church. He spent 25 years in the trucking industry. Jack lived a wonderful life. He has left a legacy of great memories and will be missed by family and friends.
    He is survived by his wife, Doris of Somonauk; four sons, Larry (Kelly) Adkins of Sandwich, Mike (Robyn) Adkins of Sandwich, Johnny (Julie) Adkins of Holland, MI, and Keith (Kathy) Adkins of Somonauk; eight grandchildren, Jolie, Seth, Jaclyn, Amber, Nathan, Brett, Joel, and Alex Adkins; a great granddaughter, Riley Adkins; a brother, John Abe (Mona) Adkins of Merced, CA; and a sister, Flo Adkins of Somonauk.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ivan Adkins; and one sister, Eulajean Kumlein.
    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2002 at First Apostolic Church in Sandwich with the Rev. John William Davis officiating. Burial will be in Pratt's Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sandwich. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 16 at the Turner Funeral Home in Somonauk.
