John P. Brown, 68, of 202 Cottage Hill Ave., died at 6:50 p.m. Friday at his residence following an illness.
Born May 21, 1925, in Butler County, he was the son of Charles M. and Anna Regina Taylor Brown.
He had worked at the Butler Armco plant as a craneman and was also formerly employed at the Craftsman Ziegler Printing Co., Butler. He worked for the state Department of Transportation for 10 years before retiring in 1965.
He served in the Army with the First Ranger Battalion at Anzio and Casino in Italy during World War II. He was Catholic and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 249 in Butler.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth E. Gallagher Brown, to whom he was married for 47 years; two daughters, Mrs. Chip (alice Ann) Ellis of Norfolk, Va., and Barbara J. Brown of Butler; two brothers, Robert Brown of Ohio and Charles Brown of Renfrew; four sisters, Mrs. Betty Johnson, Mrs. Betty Lou Vozar and Mrs. Sherwell (Bernice) Hepfl, all of Butler, and Mrs. Barbara Brown of Slippery Rock; two grandsons; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister.
Friends of John P. Brown, who died Friday, Jan. 21, 1994, will be received Sunday. A mass of christian burial will be held Monday. Burial will be in Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.
