Major Lawrence L. Coggiola (USAF, Retired)
PLANO, TX - Major Lawrence L. Coggiola (USAF, Retired), 86, of Plano, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2011.
He was born on October 6, 1924, in Glastonbury, Connecticut, the son of late Louis and Josephine Bussa Coggiola. A first generation Italian American, Larry proudly entered the Army Air Corp as a B-17 pilot in 1943, serving as part of a lead crew with the 385th Bomb Group, 550th Squadron, stationed at Great Ashfield, England. Making the U S Air Force a career, his medals include the Air Medal with three clusters, the Armed Forces Commendation Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Retiring as a Major on May 30, 1963 from Westover AFB, Massachusetts, he entered Civil Service, from which he retired in 1980.
He married Aileen Olive Zeveska on July 4, 1947 at Fort George Wright in Washington, who passed away in 1975. Remarrying Patsy Ruth Post Goins on August 1, 1976, they enjoyed many years together until her death in 2006.
He is survived by his daughter, Lauren Zboril and her husband, Joe, of Redondo Beach, California, daughter Barbara Groh, and son-in-law, Gary, of Yorktown, Virginia, and son, David Coggiola and daughter-in-law, Denise, of McKinney, Texas; Sons Jim Goins and his wife, Martha; John Goins of Shreveport, La., and the late William Goins and his wife, Ellyce. Grandchildren Brian Groh of Yorktown, Virgina; Lauren Coggiola of Studio City, California, Leigh Coggiola of Tampa, Florida, Paul Coggiola of Plano, Texas; William Goins of Houston, Texas, Leslie Dean, Laura Goins, Lacey Goins, all of Shreveport, La.; and Lindsey Goins Sikorski of Los Angeles, California; Sean and Blayne Smith of McKinney, Texas.
Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until service time at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ruston. Rev. Frank Folino, O.F.M will officiate the service. Burial with full military honors will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.
