Sergeant First Class, US Army. Veteran of Persian Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan. He was ambushed and murdered in his truck in downtown Shreveport.

SHREVEPORT, LA - Services for James Chitman, 41, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Pastor David Larmar officiating. Burial will be on Monday, August 10, 2009 at the Northwest La. Veterans Cemetery in Keithville at 11:00 a.m.
Family hour will be Friday, August 7 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Heavenly Gates.
James was a lifelong resident of Shreveport and retired from the Army National Guard. He was employed as an engineer with KCS Railroad.
He is survived by his wife Eureka Demery-Chitman, one son, two daughters; mother Mary Chitman, father Mack Brown; two sisters, four brothers, host of relatives and friends.
