Good looking young Billy was killed near Duncan. His body was found in the river after a flash flood. He had been given a ride to his "camp" near Duncan by one of the local deputies, and dropped off. He had been panning for gold. His tragic death was a mystery-never solved-but listed as an accidental death. The exact date of his death could not be determined. He spent a lot of time between his mother's house in Lordsburg, and exploring the mountains looking for gold.
Buried next to his brother-in-law, Preston A. Wright. He had the prettiest handwriting for a man that I ever saw. Was a Christian, and read his bible often. Was a quiet soft spoken man. He loved to pan for gold as his father did.
He was the son of William Thomas and Ella (Peacock) Cardell. For a short time, he served his country in the United States Army. Billy was never married.
