Ida was killed in Galvestion In by a train.. Ida and William were in a horse drawn buggy driving across the railroad tracks when an on-coming train, dashing swiftly about a curve, struck the rig, killing Ida outright and injuring William permanently. Two small children were left with out a mother for William to raise. They were Olive Marie Lutz and Susan Almena Lutz. For some good reason the children were not in the buggy.
