The second child and only son of Charles Frederick
and Charlotte A. Atkinson of Teddington, Middlesex

When young he joined the 8th Battn., Middlesex.Regiment.
and the Royal Marines in 1889. He served for 12 years
and was placed on the reserve list and completed 21 years
of service before he re-enlisted as Private (CH/18828) in
Royal Marine Light Infantry in 1914. He contracted septic
pneumonia at Dunkirk and died at the R.M. Depot at Deal.
