|Birth: ||Oct. 6, 1936|
|Death: ||May 1, 2006|
In the morning hours of May 1, 2006, William Charles "Bill" Murphy III, 69, went to be with his Lord and Savior after a valiant fight with leukemia, surrounded by his devoted wife and caregiver, Judy Murphy; daughter Debbie Milteer; and son, Scott Murphy.
"Pop" as he was affectionately known, was also a proprietor of Race World in Suffolk and Virginia Beach with his best buddy - his loving son. He loved spending time with family and friends, going to all of the local short track races and arena football. He had a passion for life and people.
His grandchildren, Justin and Ashley, brought him great joy.
He is also survived by a sister, Patsy McGauley and two brothers, Kenny Murphy and Carlton Murphy.
The Murphy family would like to express our appreciation and gratitude to the many doctors, nurses and health care professionals who have been so caring during the past year.
To my beloved husband of 40 years and sweetheart - you lived by faith and grace, setting the example for all to see. Your gentle spirit and love will live in my heart forever.
A funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Jamey Stuart. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
