Dr. Louise E. (Eareckson) Hoffman, 61, of Susquehanna Twp., died Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
She was born in West Point, NY on May 16, 1949, the daughter of the late William Winchester and Martha L.(Critchfield) Eareckson.
Dr. Hoffman Received her B. A. and her Ph.D. in history, with specialization in European history, especially Germany, from Bryn Mawr College and taught at Wake Forest University and Virginia Tech before coming to Penn State Harrisburg in 1985. In addition to teaching history and humanities courses at Penn State Harrisburg, she served as coordinator of the graduate master's degree program in Humanities and the Interdisciplinary Humanities undergraduate major. She also received the College's Faculty Service and Student Advising awards and led the college's first study trip to India. Externally, she served as Chief Faculty Consultant for the College Board's Advanced Placement European History Program. Her publications include essays on the history of psychoanalysis and its application to historical interpretation which appeared in American Psychologist and Psychohistory Review and, most recently, an essay on the fate and activities of Jewish women during and after the Holocaust.
She is survived by her daughter, Maya-Swapna Elisabeth Hoffman, of Harrisburg and 2 sisters, Susan E. Earecson, of Michigan and Cecilia Eareckson of Maryland.

Auer Cremation Services of Pennsylvania Inc., Harrisburg, will be handling the arrangments.
There will be no services.
