OAK HILL — On April 5, 2010, Coach William Roosevelt Lynch, 59, of Oak Hill, left this world only to be remembered by those who loved him.
Born March 24, 1951, in Minden, W.Va., Roosevelt was the son of the late Willamae Evans.
Roosevelt was a graduate of Collins High School and Glenville State College where he received his B.A. in education. He was a four-year basketball scholarship recipient from Glenville State College. He was a coach for many years at Collins Middle School and Oak Hill High School. He was employed at Massey Energy Performance Coal Co., Upper Big Branch Mine. He was active and faithful in the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Minden, where he served as a devotional leader, praise team leader, and helped in any way possible. Roosevelt loved life and was a man of utmost courage, strength, and generosity who enjoyed giving much more than receiving.
Roosevelt was a patient, loving, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was a true family man. Enough could not be said about the love he had for his wife and children. He was the voice of reason among the family and always found a way to help others even if he had to go without. He was a mentor and role model for many in the community, schools, and work. Roosevelt was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and will be truly missed by all those that knew him.
In addition to his mother, Roosevelt was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Vivian Lynch, brother, Darnell Evans, and great-grandparents, George and Bessie Ward. Left to cherish his loving memory: devoted and loving wife of 37 years, Geneva "Genny" Lynch, to this union, son, Mon Lynch, and granddaughters, Samiah and Jayla Lynch of Minden, (expecting) daughter, Miki and husband Jason Rogers, and grandson, Jasiah Rogers of South Charleston; brother, Melvin and wife Pamela Lynch of Mt. Hope; sisters, Christiann Lynch of Beckley and Lillie and husband, Tyrone Martin, of Oak Hill; uncle, George "Nick" Lynch of New Jersey; special friends, Jerome Fruit, and basketball buddies, former students, and faculty, as well as six sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, April 11, 2010, at Outreach For Christ Christian Center, 416 G Street, Beckley, with Rev. Charles Brown, Pastor Sam Calloway Jr. and Rev. Thomas Steelman officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.
Friends may call two hours prior to the services at the church. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the services.
