TERRY, Finn Lohring
1996-2008

Finn was always quick with a smile and a kind word. Passionate about life, family, and friends, he was born in Pasadena, Calif., on July 2, 1996. Today would have been his 12th birthday. He unfortunately was taken from us on June 7, 2008, and will not be here to celebrate this day with us, his loving family and friends.

Everyone who knew Finn, whether for a day or for a lifetime, was affected by his bright smile and infectious spirit. As his brother Max would say, "He was a five-star person". Finn made friends easily and was the boy who always welcomed the new kid and made them feel part of the group. He had an eclectic group of friends that was ever expanding and the capacity to relate with the smallest child and the most mature adult. He was always eager to engage in conversation and was a pleasure to talk with on a wide range of topics. He had a sly sense of humor and always got the joke. Finn loved the water. Be it a puddle, the pool, a lake or the Pacific Ocean, Finn was content to just bob for hours.

Finn was a fun-loving rarely serious boy who thoroughly enjoyed life. Every day when he was picked up from school (from pre-school on) when asked if he had a good day he would reply "No, it was a great day! He loved reading, was very creative, and definitely marched to the beat of his own music. Finn could, and often did, spend hours playing the latest video games with his brothers. A very social boy, he was also content to spend quiet time alone reading a book, listening to music (his favorite was the Hippos) or lately working on personal creative writings. He loved to be on stage and was a true believer that no part was too small.

Finn was a part of a very active and loving family and participated in many activities in his short life. He was an alumnus of Alameda Elementary School and enjoyed going back and catching up with his teachers. He made the decision to attend da Vinci Arts Middle School where he could participate in drama, dance and other performing arts. It is not many middle school boys who thank their parents everyday for letting them go to school, but Finn did. Finn participated in the dance program at school and was proud to have danced in the two performances that were mounted this year. He also participated in the sixth grade play and was looking forward to continuing to develop his performing skills. He participated in the school poetry slam and at the talent show recited an original poem to a standing ovation. He was also involved with Scouting. Finn was active in sports, participating on local soccer, baseball and football teams. His lifelong love of water motivated him to enthusiastically become involved with the Portland Aquatic Club. He was really coming into his own with the help and guidance of faculty, coaches, friends and family. We will never get to see where he was going, but we knew it was going to be somewhere grand.

Finn loved his family and they miss him more than he will ever know. He leaves behind an older sister, Madeleine, who loved to talk to him about school and girls. His younger brothers, Max and Bowen, are left without his shiny presence and will have to find their way in the world without the guidance of their "wiser' older brother. His parents, Steve and Pam, are so full of sadness, but are thankful for the short years that they had with him and know that he forever changed their lives and made them better people. He also leaves behind his Mema and Pop-Pop, and Uncle Eggy and Aunt Paula in California whom he loved with all the kisses in his heart. He will also be missed by his grandparents and family in Tucson, Ariz.

Finn's spirit lives on in the smile you give to someone you love, just met or someone you don't even know.
