Jana Larsen Peters, 35, of San Francisco, Calif., passed away Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006 at UCSF Medical Center after an eight-year battle with breast cancer.
Jana was born on Jan. 12, 1971, in Denver, Colo., and grew up in Colorado Springs, Colo. She graduated from Lansing High School in 1989, attended the University of Kansas and graduated from Washburn University School of Nursing in 1995. She was married to Christopher Peters on Oct. 31, 1998, in Kansas City, Mo. Jana was employed at IMTCI and PRA International in Lenexa from 1996 to 2004. In 2004, she pursued her dream to live in San Francisco and work for Genentech — a top biotech company that is active in finding a cure for cancer. Jana was a passionate advocate for breast cancer awareness, education and research.
She was the founder and president of the Ribbons of Pink Foundation and co-author of the book "Nordie's at Noon: The personal stories of four women ‘too young' for breast cancer." Jana was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood.
Jana is survived by her husband, Christopher Peters; her father and step-mother, Charles and Patricia Larsen; her mother, Lynn Goltry Polk; her step-grandmother, Mary Jane Huddy; her sister and brother-in-law, Angela and Richard Troxel, and their daughter Bronwyn; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Carol and Ronald Peters; her grandmother, Tina Block Ediger; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Eric and Shanna Peters, and their sons Kyle and Caden; and numerous special aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of Jana's life will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, at United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, Leawood. Her ashes will be interred at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Memorial Garden and scattered in Colorado and Kauai, Hawaii.
