Pioneer Crosses Great Divide
George Baker, for more than fifty years a resident of this valley, passed away at his Huerfano County ranch on Greaser Creek on Thursday morning of last week of heart failure, aged 74 years 2 months and 11 days.

The deceased came to this valley with his father ahead of the colonists who settled there in 1870. He followed the occupation of a farmer and stock grower. He was a man against whom we never heard an unkind word and he was upright and honest in all his dealings; he was good neighbor and kind parent.

Besides the widow there are surviving one son, Albert Baker, and two daughters, Mrs. Lillie Stephens and Mrs. Charles Schmidt, both of which latter reside in Huerfano County, and several grandchildren.

The funeral was held from the home ranch, about five miles south of this place at 1 P.M. on Sunday last, after which the remains were followed to the Rosita Cemetery where interment was made beside the grave of his father, Uncle Dan Baker, and his three sons gone before.

The following old-time residents acted as pallbearers: Joseph Kiesler,Max Garnier, G.B. Beardsley, Chas F. Harris, Napoleon Mercier and J.P. Felkenburg.
