FREMONT: Jeremy R. Schaeffer 29, of Fremont died Sunday night, May 1, 2011 at the O.S.U. Medical Center in Columbus. He was awaiting a heart transplant, but developed complications while recovering from a previous heart surgery. His family was with him when he passed away, along with his fiancee and her family. She was with him every day during his 3 1/2 months in the hospital. He was born on April 24, 1982 in Fremont.
Jeremy accepted faith in Jesus Christ and showed great courage and determination. He was a loving and compassionate man with an exceptional sense of humor. He worked at the Goodwill store in Fremont. He and his fiancee, Sarah Castillo loved being re-enactors of the French and Indian War era and were members of the Seneca Muzzle Loaders. They traveled to historic sites inlcuding Fort Meigs in Perrysburg, and Fort Niagra in New York State.
Jeremy is survived by his parents, Samuel and Christine Schaeffer; brother, Jordan (Sara) Schaeffer, sister, Jennessa Schaeffer; grandfather, Richard Reardon; uncles, Chester (Marty) Schaeffer, Kenneth (Carol) Schaeffer, David Reardon, Andy (Elizabeth) Reardon; and aunts, Joan (Al) English, Nancy Walby, Katie (Larry) Trumbo; and 19 cousins.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Kenneth and Erma Schaeffer, Betty Reardon; and uncle, Frank Walby.
Visitation will be on May 22, 2011 from 3 to 4 p.m. at Fremont Alliance Church, 936 N. Brush St., with a memorial service at 4 p.m. Jeremy was cremated, and a private burial will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Jeremy R. Schaeffer Memorial Fund at any branch of Croghan Colonial Bank.
