Dane County
Wisconsin, USA
Death: Apr. 8, 1947

South Dakota, USA

Knudt L. Flisram was born December 3, 1860 in Perry, Wisconsin. He married Inger Marie Pederson in August 1888 at Blanchardville, Wisconsin. Marie was born January 22, 1866 in Vemie, Norway. In February of 1890, Knudt and his brother Ole, and friend Samuel Lunn came to Gregory County by wagon. They crossed the Missouri River at Snake Creek and spent the night at Turgeon Ranch near Bonesteel, South Dakota. They set to work building Knudt's log cabin, until a blizzard struck.. They lifted the wagon box from the running gear and wheels, turned it upside down and made a crude shelter. They, also, erected cabins for Sam and Ole with "squatter's rights" established. The three men were the first homesteaders after the land had been opened for settlement. They were later joined by Knudt's other brother John Flisram and Lewis and Albert Lunn. They had one son who died in infancy and had nine children. Lulu, Ella, Mary, Semenda, and Ruth were teachers in Gregory County near Bonesteel. They lived in Burnside, South Dakota (later Academy) for 4 years. Knudt then got a claim at Huston Springs. He built a homestead there in the spring of 1891. Knudt's cabin was a half mile south of Bonesteel, was a 2 room, 11 foot square log structure, built up against a growth of trees. Inger and their two children, Lulu and Clarence joined their father there. By 1904 the log cabin was abandoned for a new large frame house. Additional farm buldings were constructed and the homestead became a modern farm of that peorid. Knudt died April 8, 1947 in Bonesteel, South Dakota. Inger Marie died October 2, 1945 in Bonesteel, South Dakota. Both are buried in Bonesteel Cemetery. This information provided by JoAnn Rockstrom.

There are several pages of information about Knut, John, and Ole and their many descendants in the "SAGA OF MISSOURI REVEILLE', published by the Gregory Times, South Dakota, in 1981.
