S. M. Hamlin Passes Away at the Home
of His Daughter in Holland
Stephen M. Hamlin was born Sept. 7, 1830, in Stark County, Ohio, and died Aug. 26, 1910, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alex Wilson, 300 W. 13th St., Holland, Mich. The early part of his life was spent in Ohio and Indiana. He came to Michigan about 1856 and settled in Casco, Allegan County, where he resided until the spring of 1885, when he moved to Saugatuck Township in the same county, living there until about four years ago, when he came to reside with his son in Cheshire. He enlisted in Company F, 12th Michigan Infantry, and served to the close of the war. In 1863 he was united in marriage to Miss Samantha Sears of Portage County, Ohio. To this union were born four children Jobe H Hamlin and Miss Mettie Hamlin of Cheshire, Mrs. Alex Wilson of Holland, and Seth O. Hamlin of Grand Ledge, all of whom survive him. He had been a great sufferer for a number of years and often during the last weeks of his illness expressed the wish that the end would soon come. In early manhood he united with the M. E. church in Casco. Besides the children, he leaves to mourn his loss four brothers and hosts of other relatives and friends. He was laid to rest beside the remains of his wife, who preceded him nearly two years ago, in the Pilgrim Home Cemetery at Holland.
