Iris Burnside was traveling with her mother and maid as first class passengers aboard the Lusitania.
Iris was the daughter of Josephine Smith Eaton and Thomas David Meldrum Burnside. She was born in Holloway, Middlesex, and had one younger brother, Allan Eaton Meldrum Burnside, born in 1898. Her grandfather was the founder of the popular department store, Eaton's.
The family were on their way to visit her father's family in Ireland.
Iris was with her maid (Martha Waites) and her mother enjoying lunch when the torpedo hit the ship.
Iris perished along with her maid, Martha Waites, but her mother Josephine, survived.
Although her body was believed to have not been recovered, she is memorialized on a gravestone in Brompton Cemetery, Greater London, England.
