Helen was dedicated to her family and she always tried to make them see the good side of any bad situation. She enjoyed flower and herb gardening, knew all wildflowers by name, crocheting, painting, arts, crafts and sewing. She will be remembered for her cooking, especially her biscuits and gravy and her wonderful apple pies. One special memory was her trip to see Tasha Tudor, an author of children's books.
Survived by her sons, William D. (Kathy) of Houston, Oh., Jeffrey (Sonia) of Stafford Va., Joseph (Karen) of Springfield, Jon (Nancy) of Villa Rica, Ga; daughters, Jill (Mike) Shaffer of Galena, Jacque (Jack) Kuhn of Galena, Jody (Mike) Forman of Sunbury; 19 grandchildren, 25 great- grandchildren, three great-great- grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband William E. Barber on May 9, 1991, grandson William Charles Barber, brother Robert McCombs, sisters Mary Wolfe, Mildred Sage, Betty Jean Nicely.
Friends may call at the DeVORE-SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury, Tuesday 5-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the 1 p.m. service Wednesday with Fr. David Sizemore officiating. Private interment for the family will take place at a later date. The family would appreciate memorial contributions to: Mount Carmel Hospice.
