Lester Brucks Saathoff, age 91, of Quihi, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011.

He was born to the late Emil and Anna Saathoff on March 27, 1919, in Medina County. Lester was a lifetime member of the Quihi Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Hermann Sons and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

In 1940 he graduated from Draughon's Business College and went on to honorably serve with the United States Army of Engineers during World War II with a Master Sergeant status. Additionally, he served in the Korean War. The next 30 years were spent in Civil Service at Lackland AFB.

Lester married Florence Duplichan on Aug. 14, 1946. Their marriage of 65 years was blessed by three children, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Michael Touzinsky of Fair Oaks Ranch, Neta and Larry Schott of Quihi; son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Michelle Saathoff of Bulverde; grandchildren, Amy Smith, Andrea Cheatham, Alyson Whitehead, Barrett Schott, Blaine and Dalton Saathoff; great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Hayden Smith, Karsten Cheatham, Trey, Braxton and Berkeley Whitehead, and Bodie Schott; numerous nieces and nephews.

In 1982 he and his wife were honored by the Texas Agricultural Commission with a Texas Family Land Heritage Certificate for having 100 years of continuous ag production on their farm in Medina County.

His happiest times were spent with family, fishing on the Quihi Creek and enjoying the laughter of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also an avid Cowboy and Spurs fan.
