Charles T. Boyd Sr., 79, of Avoca, died unexpectedly Sunday evening, September 13, 2009, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township. He and his wife, Marion Marcavage Boyd, celebrated their 53 wedding anniversary on February 5, 2009. Born in Scranton, he was a son of the late George Sr. and Mary McAndrew Boyd. He attended Scranton Technical High School and received his GED from the Army. He attended Lackawanna Junior College and was a graduate of The University of Scranton. He was an Army veteran, having served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. In 1970, he retired from the Army after 22 years of military service. Charles was employed for the past 32 years by Cee Kay Auto, Moosic. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Scranton; the VFW Post 8335, Avoca; and the West Side Social Club, Avoca. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, George Jr. and Ronald Boyd. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Glenn Boyd, Avoca, and Charles T. Boyd Jr., and wife, Mary Kay, Laflin; a daughter, Linda Davies and husband Robert, Ransom; two sisters, May Stevens and Jane Kavulich; a brother, Gene Boyd, and wife Donna, all of Scranton; four grandchildren, Kyle, Derek, Ryan and Julia Boyd; and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Thursday at 9:15 a.m. from the Ruane & Regan Funeral Home, 1308 Grove Street, Avoca, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, Oram Street, Scranton. Interment at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Military honors will be conducted Thursday by AMVETS Post 189, Dupont. Friends may call Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m.
