MATTOON — Doris Arlene Tate, 61, of Mattoon died at 1:21 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 25, 1994) at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Rev. James Drysdale officiating. Burial will be in the Janesville Cemetery.
She was born Jan.16, 1933,in Cumberland County, the daughter of Oscar and Carrie Gentry Thomas. She married Clarence Marion Tate; he survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Curtis M. Tate and Elmer E. Tate, both of Mattoon; a daughter, Mrs. David (Donna Jo) Tate Duggins of Mattoon; three sisters, Mrs. John (Virginia Lois) Starwalt, Marjorie Welch. both of Mattoon, and Mrs. Les (Barbara) Naab of Decatur; and six granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by a sister.
Mrs. Tate previously worked at General Electric in Mattoon, the Mattoon Memorial Hospital as a cook, and for Justrite. She retired from the Douglas Nursing Center as head cook. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Mattoon and AARP.

MATTOON — The funeral for Doris Arlene Tate was held Friday afternoon at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Rev. James Drysdale officiating. Burial was in the Janesville Cemetery.
The organist, Valerie Gibson, accompanied Darlene Drysdale, who sang "Jesus Savior, Pilot Me," "The Last Mile Of The Way," and "What A Day That Will Be." Also played were "In The Garden," What A Friend We Have In Jesus," and "On The Wings Of A Dove."
The pallbearers were Doug Starwalt, James A. Welch, Tim Naab, Bobby Tate, Mark Star wait and Verl Tryon.
Mrs. Tate, 61, of Mattoon died Jan. 25,1994, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The following is from the Mattoon Journal Gazette, Mattoon, IL: Sunday, October 29, 1950
Doris Thomas and Marion Tate of Lerna were married, Friday evening at 5:30 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe McQuoin east of Lerna. Rev. A.L. Todd officiated in a single ring ceremony in the presence of 25 friends and relatives with Miss Norma Tate, sister of the groom as bridesmaid and Irvin Lawson as groomsman.
The bride wore a navy blue taffeta street length dress. The bridesmaid wore a street length peacock blue dress. Their corsages were pink carnations.
Mrs. Tate is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Thomas of Lerna and is employed at Kuehne Manufacturing Co.
Mr. Tate is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Tate of Lerna and is also employed at Kuehne plant.
The young couple will reside at 1500 Shelby Ave. in this (Mattoon) city.
