He was killed on August 29, 2004 in Kabul, Afghanistan in a terrorist attack. Also killed in the attack was John Andrew Deuley (Find A Grave Memorial No. 12649287).
Sgt. Gibson was a civilian police officer working for a subsidiary of DynCorp International, when he and John Deuley were killed in an VBIED attack on the State Department's civilian police headquarters in Kabul, Afghanistan.

My husband worked with Gerald in Afghanistan and was there when the blast went off that killed Gerald and also John Deuley. My husband has always spoken kindly of them and misses his brothers in arms. Rest in peace!
