HERBERT BROWN RITES
The funeral of Herbert W Brown of 18 Pine Street, who died Tuesday at his home, was held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Clifford Funeral home on North Main Street, the Rev J Graydon Brown, pastor of the Congregational Church officiating. The burial was in Calvary Cemetery where the ritual service of the Loyal Order of the Moose was carried out by officers of Rutland Lodge. Those taking part were Past Gov John A LaFrance, Gov Clarence O'Connor, Junior Gov George Frappier and Francis Lovejoy of Pittsford, acting as prelate.
A trio comprising Mrs Shirley Sergent, Miss Arlene Laird and Miss Persis Dunning, sang "The Old Rugged Cross." The bearers were John A LaFrance and John F Flemming, representing the Moose, George J O'Neil and William P Hulihan, Vermont Marble Company, Charles B Fisher and Louis H Eskottet.
Flowers were received by the family from the Center Rutland shop employees, Vermont Marble Company, Moose Lodge, Advent Christian Church, Williamson's radio service, medical and nursing staffs of Springfield Hospital and other friends in Ontario, Quebec, Claremont NH and Rutland.
Among those from out of town who attended the services were Marshall Brown of Worcester, Mass, Mrs Robert Glasgow, Mr and Mrs Ellwood Beerwort, Mrs Ruby Beerwort, Mrs Gladys Beerwort and Mrs Catherine Baker of Quebec, Richard and Tuttle Curtis of Alburg, Mrs Orville Johnston, Mrs Eben Farnsworth of Claremont and Mrs Lucy Smythe of White River Junction.
