Elijah was the son of Sarah "Sally" Patty/Paty & we believe from the DNA tests that has been done that his father was Benjamin Ray. His grandparents were James 1705-1758) and Sarah Patty.
Obituary of Elijah appeared in "The Southern Christian Advocate" - August 10, 1849 Died, July 5, Elijah Paty, in his 74th year. He has gone to join a wife and seven children in heaven, three are left to deplore their loss. He united himself to the M.E. church in early life of which he remained a member to the day of his death. He endured a great deal of persecution in consequence of the straight-forward course he pursued. He was one of the landmarks of the church. Never did I witness a greater triumph over death than in the case of our Father Paty. He was greatly afflicted for about three years, but never was he heard to murmur or repine, but patiently waited his release. Just before he breathed his last, the children and grandchildren, and servants, all came in to witness the triumph over death. He reached out his dying hand to tell them all farewell, one by one, as though he was going to take a short journey. I asked him, while in the last agonies of death, what were his prospects: he answered, "all is well," which were the last words he uttered. In a little while he calmly fell asleep in Jesus, retaining his right mind to the last. The Church, the widow, and the orphan , have lost a valuable friend. When many of the old preachers of the Georgia and South Carolina conference see this notice, they will call to mind the many pleasant moments they have passed around the table and fireside of our deceased friend. He has left an aged and beloved wife, and three children, to deplore their loss. by: N. Randle
