Janko Mejaski, was John Markey's real name.
His fathers name was Lovro Mejaski, who took the name Larwence Markey when he came to America from Croatia. John was a dairy man, and owned the Markey Dairy in Pocahontas, Il. Markey Dairy Milk bottles can still be found today in antique shops in the area. He married Ella Mae Lutz on Dec 7, 1909 in front of a Judge in Greenville, Il.
John Markey, 61, Of Pocahontas Dies At Hospital Following a Stoke
John Markey, 61, retired Pocahontas Diaryman, died at St. Joseph's hospitial at Highland at 11:30 a.m. today following a stoke of paralysis sustained Saturday night. Mr. Markey was taken to the hospital late Sunday in a critical condition, he being in a coma, his entire body being affected by the stroke.
The body was removed to the Gillespie Hall funeral Home in Pochaontas but funeral plans had not been made at press time today.
John Markey, 61, retired dairyman of Pocahontas, passed away at St. Joseph Hosptial in Highland, Il, July 23, 1945.
Mr. Markey was born April 2, 1884 at XXXXXXX. He was married December 7, 1909 In Greenville to Ella Lutz and she with two sons, Louis Markey of Franklin Missouri, and John Markey of Pocahontas and two daughters, Mrs. Jospeh Jenner and Mrs. Julia Pruitt of Pochantas Survives. One son Samuel, died in 1939. He is survived by Mrs. Kate Salovich of Mt. OLive. He came to Pocahontas when a young man. His parents are natives of XXXXXXX,retuned to their native Country many years ago and while the family knows the father has passed away they are uniformed as to his wife
