Horatio Coe was the son of Elijah and Ann Middleton Smallwood Coe. He and twin Hezekia were born near Hillsboro, Virginia. Elijah (1751-1815), the son of John and Mary Coe, and Ann (1755-1805),the daughter of John and Ann Marlow Smallwood, both born in Prince George County, Maryland, married October 23, 1779 and had seven children in addition to Horatio and Hezekia.
Horatio was a veteran of the War of 1812.
Horatio married Catherine Grubb, daughter of Ebenezer and Ester Lodge Grubb in Loudoun County, Virginia on Agust 3, 1811. They had eight children. Their children were:

William (1817-1892) married Elizabeth J. Kimes

John Curtis (1825-1912) married Charity Grubb
Samuel Jacob (1827-1910) married Mary M. Grubb
James Monroe (1830-1894) married Jeanette Sanbower
Horatio's tombstone has his name spelled Horshea. It is unclear why the spelling except that could be a phonetic understanding.
Horatio was one of the founding trustees of the Ebenezer Methodist Church in Neersville, Loudoun County.

The old Ebenezer Methodist Episcopol Church was located just off Harpers Ferry Road near Neersville, in Loudoun County, Virginia. The remains of the church and cemetery are in terrible shape with the majority of the stones deep in the thicketts and brush.
