Captain Gerald Dean Allen was born on Saturday, 23 Apr 1921 in Clarkston, Asotin, Washington, at the home of his parents Oscar Willis Allen and Viola Mae Whitesel. While growing up he helped out his parents in their bakery business. He lived in Lewiston, Nez Perce, Idaho on 05 Apr 1930. He received his schooling kindergarten through high school. He lived in West Orchards, Nez Perce, Idaho on 03 Apr 1940. He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1940. He attended Lewiston Business College for two years. He served in the military on 05 Jun 1942 (US Marine Corps). He served in the military on 17 Jul 1943 in Parris Island, Beaufort, South Carolina (Second Lieutenant). He served in the military in 1946 in China. He served in the military in 1953 in Korea. He died on Saturday, 15 Jul 1955 in Pensacola, Escambia, Florida (a helicopter training accident).
Gerald Dean Allen and Helen Elizabeth Miller married Saturday, 07 Aug 1943 in Jacksonville, Duval, Florida.
MILITARY RITES HELD FOR CAPTAIN
Funeral services for Capt. Gerald D. Allen of Clarkston were conducted at 3:30 pm yesterday at the Lewiston First Methodist Church. The Rev. Merritt Faulkner, pastor officiated. Mrs. Faulkner sang, accompanied by Mrs. Vonley Miller organist.
Pallbearers were Leigh Marlott, Robert Willett, James Meacham, Harvey Crozier, Kenneth Wyatt and George Stedman. Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
The American Legion, Lewis-Clark Post, was in charge of committal services at Normal Hill Cemetery, Lewiston. Frank W. Sullivan, commander in charge, C. H. DeShazer, Palmer Chase, Roland Bird, David Starnes, James Armstrong and George O’Connor were on the firing squad. Ralph Warner and Philip Weisgerber, Jr. were color bearers. Maj. Gordon I. Shore and W. O. Ronald Huffman were color guards. State Commander Leslie McCarthy and Clarence Kindrick, immediate past commander of the Lewis-Clark Post, were flag folders. Bryan Hopkins was bugler.
