Capt Lillian Kinkella Keil
Birth: Nov. 17, 1916
Death: Jun. 30, 2005

Air Force Flight Nurse Pioneer. When the United States entered WW II, she was a stewardess for United Air Lines. She joined the Army Air Force as a flight nurse and by 1943, she was in England treating wounded crewmen from B-17s returning from bombing raids over Europe. She flew on 425 combat evacuation missions, took part in 11 major campaigns, including the D-Day invasion of France, the Battle of the Bulge in World War II and the Battle of Chosin Reservoir in Korea. She is one of the most decorated women in American military history. She was awarded 19 medals, including a European Theater medal with four battle stars, a Korean service medal with seven battle stars, four air medals and a Presidential Citation from the Republic of Korea. Her experiences as a flight nurse were used as the basis for a 1954 Hollywood movie, "Flight Nurse" and she was a technical adviser for the film. Her life story also was told on an episode of the television program, "This Is Your Life" in 1961. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
