Jorge Ahuactzin, a longtime Yuma jeweler, was murdered Friday in Mexico while visiting relatives there, according to his family in Yuma.
Ahuactzin, owner of 24 Karat Jewelers, and his brother, Manuel, were fatally shot as they were raising the garage door of Manuel Ahuactzin's home in Mexico's Tlaxcala state, the family said in a statement.
The brothers and other family members had been dining out and were returning home when they were shot by someone in a group of three women and two men who had just approached them, the family said, citing information provided by police investigators.
Jorge Ahuactzin, 67, passed away Friday January 28, 2011 in Santa Ana, Tlaxcala, Mexico. He was born in Santa Ana, Tlaxcala, Mexico November 17, 1943 to Gonzalo and Sofia Ahuactzin.
Jorge was the owner of 24 Karat Jewelers and a member of the Yuma Chamber of Commerce and IC Church. He enjoyed hunting and keeping his yard beautiful.
Jorge is survived by his wife, Kathy Ahuactzin of Yuma; daughter, Lisa (Bill) Graves of Tucson; sons, Mark (Kimberley) and Jeff Ahuactzin of Yuma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gonzalo and Sofia Ahuactzin as well as 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Visitation will be at Yuma Mortuary Friday, February 4, 2011 from 6:00pm to 1:00am with a Rosary at 7:00pm. A mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 2:30pm Saturday, February 5, 2011. His final resting place will be at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Alex and Gonzalo Ahuactzin, Eduardo Parra, Jason Hoffard, Hermes Maldonado and Jose Luis Gonzales.
