Born in the small farming community of Graettinger, Iowa where he was graduated from Graettinger High School in 1951. John was a specialist in electronics, working for both private companies and the US military. Although he never married, he had a relationship with Eunice Gonsalvez in Brazil which resulted in the birth of a child later adopted by an unknown couple in Florida. Although quite successful in various electronics positions, once successful he lost interest and eventually was laid off due to alcohol use. He died on Los Berros Road near Nipomo, California while driving drunk. His remains were cremated and scattered in the Pacific Ocean at Shell Beach California near the last residence of his parents and near the home of one brother.
