Born 1884 in Hjorring, Nordjylland, Denmark to Carl Christian Jensen and Ane Christine Jensen. Immigrated to USA from Denmark with birth family. Graduated from Shennington High School, Shennington Wisconsin about 1902. Received a Doctor of Theology degree from Trinity Seminary, Blair NE in 1910. Married 1910 June 15 in Ringsted, Iowa to Caroline Martine "Martha" Neve. They moved to Wisconsin, where Niels was a Lutheran pastor in 1910 at Superior WI and Duluth MN, then 1914 to Milltown and Bone Lake WI, then 1910-1930 in Royal Iowa. Elected Secretery Minnesota District of the United Danish Church of America, then to other positions in the church. President, National Lutheran Council, 1925. Moved to Blair NE in 1930, where he kept occupied with various aspects of the Lutheran Church, Dana College, and Trinity Seminary. Father of Alvin Soby Carlsen (1912 - 1996), Viggo I. Carlsen (1913 - 2002), Vernor N.
