Evelyn Leatherman, 85, passed away Thursday May 17, 2007, at a local nursing home.

Service is 2 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at Garner Baptist Church, followed by interment at Holders Chapel Cemetery. Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Evelyn Anderson was born Oct. 24, 1921, in Liberty, Texas, to William Wyley and Bessie R. Mamie Lynn-Anderson. Evelyn married Elmo Leatherman on Sept. 18, 1939, in Floydada, Texas. They moved to Parker County in 1940 and resided in the Garner community since 1952. She was a longtime member of the Garner Baptist Church where she spent much of her time working for the Lord.

Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and Christian. She loved to sew, quilt, cook, drive a tractor and take care of her family. She was always singing hymns as she worked.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; and three brothers.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Elmo Leatherman; sons, Leonard and wife, Sharon, of Weatherford, Earnest and wife, Martha, and Dalton and wife, Threasa, of Garner; daughter, Wanda Lovelace and husband, Tim, of Weatherford; 13 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; sister Dolly Burgett of Dallas and many nephews, nieces and friends.
