"Pete" Rafn

Pearl M. Padgett "Pete" Rafn, 92, of Baker City, (Oregon) died March 8, 1999, at St. Elizabeth Health Services.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Coles-Strommer-Monroe Funeral Home, 1950 Place St. Pastor Linda Toth of the first Presbyterian Church will officiate.

There will be a graveside service for Mrs. Rafn at 1:30 p.m. March 17, 1999 at Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana, Calif.

Visitations will be until 7 o'clock tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Rafn was born May 8, 1906 at Marion, Kansas to John Manson and Martha Alice McGinnis Padgett, the youngest of six children. She received her education in Greenleaf, Kansas, and attended college in Missouri. She married Harold John Rafn in Greenleaf, Kansas on Nov. 27, 1927. The couple lived in Texas for 15 years before moving to southern California. After her husband's death, she moved to Baker City to be near her daughter and son-in-law in 1981.

She attended the First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting and watching her television.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and five brothers and sisters. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Jim Monroe of Baker City; grandsons Thomas J. Monroe of Groton, Conn., and Ross J. Monroe of Renton, Wash.; great-grandsons Jonathan and Joel Monroe of Grotton, Conn., and Cramer Hamper and Riley J. Monroe of Renton Wash.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Baker County Library Foundation through the Coles-Strommer-Monroe Funeral Home, 1950 Place St., Baker City, Ore., 97814.
