Mary moved with her Payne family to Vermillian, Illinois in 1836, and Jefferson Tp. in 1837 (when Iowa was a part of Wisconsin separated in 1838), where her father resided until his death in 1863. From records in other family trees it appears that her mother was Mary Dillon marrying her father, Henry Payne before 1806. She died in 1827 and her father married Margarette Jane Boak February 12, 1829.
Mary married Charles Cliften February 25, 1840.
Children: Mary Jane (1840-1915), Elisha P. Clifton (1842–1862, a Civil War veteran), Esther Ann Clifton (1843–1864) John H Clifton 1845–1846), Charles C (born about 1847. He married but apparently his wife died living him with a son Clarence C born in 1894...haven't located where either have been buried yet), William H. (1848–1934)
After loosing her husband in 1855, she went on farming making her home available to various people. Mary was the last survivor of nine children in the Payne family. She completed her life at the age of 80.
