Celia Eliza Davies was the daughter of Jesse Cook (1811-1885) and Mary Ann Ward (1815-1860) of Hickman County Kentucky. After Mary Ann died, Jesse Cook married Editha Davies, the older sister of John Hughes Davies.

In 1864, Celia and John Hughes Davies married and later moved to Arkansas in about 1869. They then settled in the Choctaw Nation, Indian territory in 1876 and raised their family. John Hughes Davies was a surveyor as well as a scholar, who taught school in Arkansas and Texas. Their children were: Olive Brown Davies, Florence Davies, Mary Frances Davies, Henryetta Davies, Jessie Davies, John Davies, and Elvena Hughes Davies.

Celia was a talented seamstress and made beautiful clothes for her daughters. She taught her daughters well since Elvena, my grandmother, was also a wonderful seamstress and made beautiful clothes for her daughters.

Celia lived her last years in Durant, Oklahoma, with her youngest daughter, Elvena, her husband, Cloyd Woodberry Wharton and their daughters, Christine and Frances. She was much beloved and passed away on February 24, 1929. She was 85 years and 8 months of age.

Celia was buried with her husband in Durant, Oklahoma. She was greatly loved by the family.
