Aaron Doty was a shoemaker, and carried on extensive business in that line until he retired from active work in 1840, and settled down on a farm near Dover. He early entered public life, havlng been elected constable of Dover about 1820, which office he held for ten years, and was then appointed a Justice of the Peace and served for five years longer. In this position he gave such satisfaction to the public that he was elected Judge of the County Court and served five years, after which he refused any further honors and retired to his farm, though ever after retaining his interest in public affairs.
He united with the Methodist Church soon after his marriage, and became an exhorter, and was a trustee of the church for thirty-five years.
Mrs. Doty was a kind and affectionate wife and mother, a good neighbor and a zealous member of the church. She was very benevolent, a ... friend in sickness and a great help to the poor and destitute of her vicinity. She lived to see all her children grow up and many of them with families around them. .
