World's greatest Dad; best Grandfather!
Dad grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He served in the Navy during World War II, stationed in the Pacific and in Europe. My parents moved to California after my Dad was discharged from the Navy in 1946. He went to work for Kaiser Steel Corporation in Fontana, and retired as a millwright after 32 years of dedicated service. His real passion was automobiles, and fixing them. He owned an automotive repair business for many years in Fontana.
Dad was an active member of the American Legion Post 772 in Fontana, where he had many friends and acquaintances.
Being from the Big Band generation, he loved the music of Glen Miller, Benny Goodman, and the Dorsey brothers. He was a great dancer and could play a pretty mean saxophone!
A dedicated Southern Californian, Dad loved the beach, Desert Hot Springs, and Las Vegas. But what he loved most was family. Some of my fondest childhood memories are the road trips we took across country to visit family in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut and Florida. We had some great times! Always a progressive thinker, Dad taught me to drive when I was only thirteen. What an adventure! :)
My father was as devoted to his grandchildren as he was to us kids. Always the patience of a saint. When he passed away at age 79, he had lived a full life and lived it well.
A DAUGHTER'S TRIBUTE:
I long for household voices gone;
for vanished smiles, I long.
But God has led my dear ones on,
and He could do no wrong.
God rest you, dear one. I love and miss you every day; the passing years will never change that. You are always in my heart. Thank you for watching over the girls.
WE LOVE AND MISS YOU SO MUCH!!
Here's to you Dad - You are one in a million!!
